From 1977 to 1990, the Apartheid government agonised over the release of Nelson Mandela. In recounting that process, Projek Mandela (Project Mandela) grips like a political thriller. While Prime Minister PW Botha prevaricates over meeting Mandela in person, Mandela patiently seeks a meeting with Botha. The slow-brewing Projek Mandela comes to fruition on 11 February 1990 when Mandela walks through the gates of Victor Verster Prison to freedom – and into history.
