Lavish: The dirt beneath the diamonds

2022-11-30 13:28:05

Lavish follows three rich and fabulous friends as they try to maintain the illusion of their perfect lives, all the while keeping their skeletons from tumbling out of their closets.

This dramedy, set in the wealthy northern suburbs of Johannesburg, shows the good, the bad and the lavishly phenomenal side of the wealthy and powerful.

“Mzansi Magic has long produced cutting-edge dramas and dramatic comedies geared towards a mature audience, and Lavish is the latest show in this genre.” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.

"Our Friday nights have a reputation for edgy content reflecting certain demographics' lives while exploring themes many find universal.”

Meet the fabulous three

Zozi

This fierce and fashionable Insta-famous mum is always the centre of attention, but also the keeper of many explosive secrets. She tries to balance her family life with her fame while making sure that people only see what she wants them to see. Played by Jessica Nkosi from The Queen and Isibaya, Zozi brings a whole truckload of drama to the party!

Kat

This highly ambitious mum comes from a very powerful and well-known political family and wants to climb to the very top, no matter the cost. How far will this workaholic go to reach the pinnacle of success and who will be there to clean up the mess she makes along the way? Ayanda Bandla, best known for her roles in Nqobile and A Zulu Christmas, tackles Kat with aplomb.

Nomzamo

Nomzamo does not come across as sophisticated and polished as her friends, which is what makes her the most fun of the three ladies. She has new money to burn and instead of focusing on being the dedicated wife that her partner wants, she has her sights set firmly on building an empire. Stage actor, Kanyi Nokwe (Gone Native, Sarafina in Black and White) brings Nomzamo’s complex character to the screen with just the right amount of rough edges.

The three best friends are joined by a seasoned cast including Sdumo Mtshali (Isibaya, Blood Psalms), Mary-anne Barlow (Legacy, The River), TV legend and advocate Nakedi Ribane (Inkaba, Ways of Dying), Nolo Seabi (Isithembiso). The show is executive produced by actress Lulu Hela (Gomora, Is'thunzi).

Lavish is definitely one to watch and offers hysterical comedic situations mixed with edgy drama that is drowning in secrecy. This winning combination makes it the perfect addition to any primetime viewing schedule.
