MultiChoice leads in 2024 SAFTA nominations

Nominees have been announced for the 18th South African Film and Television Awards, which will take place in late October.

The drama epic Shaka iLembe leads the individual show nominations with 17 including Best TV drama, Best achievement in directing – TV drama, and Best actor.

The River has completed its 6th and final season, which has earned the critically acclaimed telenovela another 11 nominations! Outlaws has also been nominated in 11 categories, while Binnelanders is the most nominated soapie with 9.

The Afrikaans workplace comedy Taktiek leads the comedy categories with 6 nominations.

Incredibly, Thembinkosi Mthembu is nominated for four individual awards: three for Best Actor and one for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in Shaka iLembe, Adulting, Outlaws, and The River.

Documentary producers IdeaCandy received 11 nominations across several productions including Convict ConmanRosemary’s Hitlist‘n Gids vir LouzanneCall of the WildLangafsstandHabits of Gen Z, and Sex and Pleasure.

Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story received 3 nominations in the documentary categories including Best documentary feature.

This year’s SAFTAs has added five new categories: Best achievement in visual effects, Best special effects in hair and makeup, and Best original songs for a telenovela, TV drama, and feature film.
