The death of community leader and Catholic 'noble man' Guelwaar (Ndiaye) brings his family back to Senegal, but his funeral is delayed when his body goes missing. A mix-up has occurred, and it is soon discovered that the man has already been buried in a Muslim cemetery. The family sets out to reclaim the body, but the Muslim community refuse to have their burial grounds tampered with. As a local policeman is charged with finding a compromise before sectarian differences flare into violent conflict, more is told about the dead man. He was amongst other things, a political firebrand opposed to foreign aid. A funny, articulate and moving satire on the state of modern Africa.
