Based on an award-winning play, Nêrens, Noord-Kaap delivers a raw and authentic take on a family working through the past to find each other again.

Three estranged brothers find their way back to the family farm, where it appears time has stood still since they left. Once reunited, there is nowhere to hide as secrets are laid bare, heartbreak is faced and the truth about their mother’s death is confronted.

Geon Nel (Safe House, Kanarie, Krotoa) Albert Pretorius (Griekwastad, Poppie Nongena, Die Seemeeu) and De Klerk Oelofse (Hotel, Ekstra Medium, Flatland) return in their leading roles as the three Adendorff brothers after winning the 2018 Fiësta Award for best ensemble for their portrayal of these characters on stage. Joining the already stellar cast is South African acting legend, Frank Opperman. Opperman, known for his roles in Queen Sono, Dominee Tienie, Terug na Egipte and much more, plays the stubborn patriarch of the family. Tinarie Van Wyk Loots (Dwaalster, Fynskrif), Dean Balie (Ekstra Medium, Die Byl) and Ilse Klink (Reyka, Skemerdans, Ellen: The Ellen Pakkies Story) also star in the emotional TV drama.

Nêrens, Noord-Kaap is a triumphant showcase of the best that local TV has to offer. It’s neatly polished and well put together, from its talented cast, engrossing script, to its visual presentation. You’ll want to savour every bite of it, and it deserves nothing less.” – News24

“With a distinctive visual style and with a story told through characters as well as through images, the TV version of Nêrens, Noord-Kaap is a richly textured, well-executed audio-visual drama on kykNET - ripe for post-graduate dissertation of just how far the traditional Afrikaans ‘farm novel’ story has progressed within a new medium as a cinematic experience.” – TV with Tinus

The visually stunning family drama is directed by the writer of the original play, Nico Scheepers (Die Maan Val Bewusteloos) alongside experienced SAFTA-winning director and editor, Johan Cronje (WonderlusMeisies wat Fluit). Scheepers also adapted the text for television with assistance from Saartjie Botha (Poppie Nongena, Die Seemeeu). Scheepers dedicated the text to his own father.

The raw and authentic nature of the script as well as the incredible production value of the show has captivated audiences already. Nêrens, Noord-Kaap makes for incredible primetime viewing and is sure to tug at the heartstrings of any viewer with its relatable depiction of loss and the true meaning of family.
