The longest-running Nigerian series never shows no signs of slowing down!

Tinsel has succeeded in providing top-quality television over 14 seasons, including a myriad of different actors and multiple directors taking the helm at various points throughout this incredible run.

When the show first aired in 2008, the level of production quality immediately caught the viewers’ attention, especially since Nigerian soaps and telenovelas at that time were recorded using a single camera, whereas Tinsel offered something more in-depth and expansive. These enhanced techniques meant that the show spent 3 years in pre-production before bursting onto screens.

Tinsel tells the story of two rival production companies attempting to claim box-office dominance in Nigeria. Brenda Nana Mensah leads Odyssey Pictures and does everything in her power to overtake her father’s company, Reel Studios. This bitter feud leads to massive drama causing a domino effect of consequences for both companies.

“… while many soaps tend to pander towards light principles that take advantage of flawed human desires and emotions, Tinsel has succeeded in balancing this ‘lightness’ with thought-provoking plot points and action.” – The Nation Online

The cast has included Matilda Obaseki (Best of Nollywood award winner for Best Actress in a Lead Role – English), two-time Best of Nollywood nominee, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi as well as Nollywood veterans Iretiola Doyle (For Coloured Girls, The Wedding Party) and Kalu Ikeagwu (30 Days, Domino) to name a few.

In 2017 Tinsel won the Best M-Net Original Series Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in addition to winning multiple awards in Nigeria.

Tinsel has maintained all the drama, romance, influence, and deceit that made it a firm favourite throughout Africa. It still offers some of the most addictive early evening viewing the continent has to offer.
