The unbelievable true story of cop-turned-serial killer, Rosemary Ndlovu, is unravelled in this jaw-dropping docuseries from Showmax.

In 2021, former police officer Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu was sentenced to six concurrent life terms for the murders of six members of her family. She was also charged with an additional 30 years for fraud, attempted murder, and incitement to commit murder.

It was discovered that all these murders and plans to commit even more were all cases of “killsurance”. Ndlovu had taken out 28 funeral insurance policies in addition to those that she had already benefitted from, proving that her hitlist was far from complete by the time she was apprehended.

Rosemary’s Hitlist set a new record for the most first-day views on Showmax of any docuseries to launch on the platform and also topped Twitter charts upon its arrival. The show is produced by Idea Candy, the company behind the SAFTA-winning hit Devilsdorp, and directed by Valen’tino Mathibela who has previously been involved with The Real Housewives of Durban, Survivor SA, and more. SAFTA winner Richard Gregory (Steinheist) is also involved as a consulting director.

Speaking to GQ about what drew him to the project, Valen’tino Mathibela states: “Because it’s unbelievable. It’s a cop! Killing her family! I wanted to find out why a mother, a daughter, and a sister would become a perpetrator while in a position of power to do the opposite and protect her family instead. Money was not enough of a reason.

Murder alone is already chilling, but this was the destruction of a family by one of their own. And by a cop. Police are seen as protectors, a role similarly expected from mothers or women as nurturers.”

True-crime YouTuber Mfundo Ndala and co-host of the Rosemary’s Hitlist podcast praised the documentary series as “a great example of the high quality of journalism that exists in South Africa”.

IOL described the show as “a true crime documentary that will make your blood run cold” while Cape Talk labelled the Showmax hit as “easily the most gripping crime story since Devilsdorp.”
