About the Short Film
Three friends stand around outside Gloucester Place, a block of council flats which locals refer to as “Die Blokke”. Muhammad wants to be a good father; Michael wants to get his mother out of Die Blokke; Cheslyn wants to get a job now that he’s finished matric. Then, a bullet shot from a passing vehicle and an illegal firearm shatter their dreams. Die Blokke is a gritty short film in Afrikaaps inspired by actual events. It depicts the cycle of violence in a world where work is scarce and life is cheap, but the cost of living is terribly high.
